Alex Richman – Salty (1972)
Artist: Alex Richman
Title: Salty
Year: 1972
Format: LP
Label: Capitol
In addition to Alex Richman (vocals-piano-organ-harpsichord), the musicians on this album include Jim Keltner (drums), Chris Ethridge (bass), Wayne Perkins (electric guitar-acoustic guitar), Ry Cooder (bottleneck guitar-acoustic guitar), Jesse Ed Davis (electric guitar), Ralf Bryan (lead guitar), Al Perkins (steel guitar), Jim Gordon (baritone sax), Jerry Jumonville (tenor sax), Darrel Leonard (trumpet), Larry Savoi (trombone), Oliver Brown (conga), Chris Bocchino (background vocals) and Jerri Bocchino (background vocals).
Powerful disc debut on Capitol is this one by the young composer, pianist, vocalist. She will undoubtedly be compared to Carol King, but she has her own identity both as a writer and performer with a huskier and more belting sound. The material, all original, is strong for FM and Top 40 with highlights such as “Nobody’s Calling” and “You”. (Billboard Magazine)

To me, this is fine. Nothing to knock my socks off, but quite good. If the description intrigues you, then you should check it out. It might click a little more with you and become a new unknown classic or at least obscure gem.
